Today, more and more new mothers are living apart from family and longtime friends. Husbands or partners often have limited time off before returning to work, which means that new moms often find themselves at home alone with their baby for long stretches of time. Without a strong network of family or friends at similar life stages nearby, this period can be extremely lonely and isolating for new moms.
Our Mom & Baby classes aim to give you a community of other mothers with whom to navigate the new parent period. They provide an environment where you can connect and learn from fellow parents at the same stage of parenting as you are in order to build your own ‘ohana’. The classes are appropriate for mothers with babies 0-12 months of age, and are facilitated by experienced Ohana staff to provide expertise on the range of topics covered in the classes:
Week 1: The Emotions and Myths of Motherhood
Week 2: Birth Stories & Self-Identity As A Mother
Week 3: Relationships With Partners and Others
Week 4: Feeding and Sleeping
Week 5: Decisions about Work and Childcare
Week 6: Baby’s Development Milestones from 0-12 Months
“The Ohana new moms/mom and baby class is excellent. I started when my son was only three weeks old and arrived at the first class covered in spitup and not entirely sure how to adjust the buckles on the carseat–this class helped me answer practical questions, troubleshoot problems with sleep and feeding, refine my ideas about my own parenting goals and style, and connect with a community of like-minded women who have become fast friends and my allies in new parenthood. It’s much better than a free meetup, because it’s run by people who actually can answer questions. Truly, this is the best thing I’ve joined since giving birth. I don’t know how to say it any louder. GO TO OHANA. You’ll be so, so, so glad that you did!” – K.B., Ohana client
